Matrimonial and Family

Chambers UK Guide to the legal profession lists both solicitors and barristers in over 70 specialist areas of law.  They research the UK legal profession and identify leading lawyers and law firms by interviewing thousands of lawyers and their clients.  Their research is independent and objective.

This prestigious guide states the following about the Family Team at Dawson Hart:

"Covering the full range of matrimonial finance and private children services, this team offers a London quality service to clients across the South"

In addition, the Partner who heads our Family Team, Mahie Abey, has been specially mentioned:

"Mahie Abey is singled out for his responsiveness and attention to detail,  His training as a barrister enables him to understand complex matters quickly"

"He got straight to the heart of my case and dealt with it sympathetically"

At Dawson Hart we understand that any relationship breakdown is an emotional and difficult time for all involved.  Our team are experienced in dealing with the issues that arise, and aim to provide practical and clear advice on the options available to allow our clients to make informed decisions on the steps which they will need to take. We advise on all aspects of family law including:

Our team specialise in all areas of matrimonial law and are used to dealing with complex financial disputes, often involving substantial assets, both here and abroad.  We have considerable experience in cases involving family companies, trusts, farms, offshore financial structures and pensions as well as disputes over the family home which for many is their major asset.

Many of our cases involve sensitive issues regarding children such as disputes over with which parent a child should live, or the amount of time a parent spends with a child.

Our lawyers understand that the needs of each individual are different and we take considerable pride in the quality of service we provide to our clients.  Each of our  lawyers is a member of Resolution an association of over 5,000 family lawyers committed to promoting a non-confrontational approach to family matters.

Whilst we are firm in protecting our clients’ interests at all times, and have considerable experience in representing clients in Court proceedings at all levels, we also promote alternative methods of resolving disputes.

We are committed to the principle of negotiating settlements for our clients where possible.  We will regularly recommend that our clients try to resolve matters through mediation and alternative methods of dispute resolution.

The firm is also committed to collaborative family law, which we believe will help reduce the emotional costs on couples and their children when families split.  This new approach involves couples working with their solicitors all together in the same room to reach agreement without the need for Court proceedings.

We also offer a dedicated family mediation service by a Resolution trained mediator for those couples who wish to try to resolve financial and children issues through mediation.

“I have been very impressed with the extremely professional service provided by Mahie Abey and his colleagues. Throughout the divorce proceedings I have felt very well 'protected' and that I was in 'safe hands'. This was very reassuring during a difficult and emotional time. My grateful thanks to Abey with much appreciation for all his support and hard work on my behalf.”
