A Trainee's Diary - Seat One

The day was 3rd September 2018 and after a summer break from studying/work, I started my journey with Dawson Hart.

Naturally, I felt nervous but equally excited about what the future might hold. After a tour of the offices, and a general chit-chat with everyone, I was shown my desk for the next 6 months in Nick Stockley’s room, the Commercial & Litigation Director. This is where I started my first seat with the Litigation, Commercial and Personal Injury Department.

After a brief period of settling, and many football conversations with Nick, I soon submerged myself into the work that the department offers. This included, but was not limited to, the following:

  • Attending Joint Settlement Meetings in London;
  • Drafting a Trademark Agreement;
  • Drafting Shareholder Agreements;
  • Familiarising myself with the litigation procedure, in particularly, attending court;
  • Researching many areas of law pinpointed to the client’s needs; and
  • The list goes on!

My time with this department has shown me what it takes to offer the best legal service to our clients. Whether that involves the excellent client care offered by Jon Wilson, or the incredible legal knowledge shown by Nick, or the soundless attention to detail from Jacqueline Hardaway, these are all qualities that I aspire to have.

As I look back, this department has allowed me to quickly settle into the working environment at Dawson Hart, but most importantly, this department has set the tone for the standards required. This is something that I will never forgot.

Next stop….Property!
