Have you registered a Lasting Power of Attorney with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2017? If so, you may be eligible for a partial refund on your application fee?
Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document in which the donor (the person making the LPA) appoints an Attorney or Attorneys to act on their behalf. There are two types of Power of Attorney - Property and Financial Affairs and Health and Welfare.
An LPA must be registered with the OPG before it can be used by the Attorney. The OPG reduced the registration fee from £112 to £82 per application in 2017.
If you applied to a register a Lasting Power of Attorney or Enduring Power of Attorney between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2017, you can claim a refund on part of the registration fee. The refunds range from £45 - £54 per document depending on when the fee was paid. If you registered both Property and Financial Affairs and Health and Welfare LPAs, you can claim a refund for both.
If you registered an LPA in the qualifying period contact the OPG direct. You can either apply online at www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney-refund or telephone the OPG now on 0300 0456 300 (option 6)
Claims must be submitted before 31st January 2021 and may be made by the Donor or Attorney. If the donor has died, an Executor/Administrator can claim a refund on behalf of the estate.
