Eastbourne Half Marathon

Yesterday, I took part in the Eastbourne Half Marathon for the first time, raising money for Rockinghorse children’s charity. With approximately 2,000 competitors and great crowd support, the atmosphere was electric. The event was extremely well organised with entertainment every few miles, such as local groups of drummers and cheerleaders, which made the race much more enjoyable, especially towards the end, and really spurred everyone on.

My stomach slightly dropped when I started crawling up a very steep hill at the start of the race, which went on longer than most novices like me expected, but running down the hill towards the seafront in the sunshine definitely made it worthwhile. The event was extremely well marshalled and the overall support was incredible. I was especially thankful for the groups of children handing out jelly babies outside their houses around Sovereign Harbour!

As only my second half marathon event and as a very amateur runner, I was extremely proud to represent Dawson Hart and also raise money for Rockinghorse. I completed the race in 2 hours and 20 minutes, and with the support of my colleagues, family and friends I have now raised a total of £350.

I hope this is the start of a great year of our fundraising for Rockinghorse, and I look forward to participating in other events we have planned such as our upcoming Easter Egg Hunt and our very popular Barn Dance in order to reach our target of £2,500 over the next year. I definitely need a few days rest first though!!
