Dawson Hart were very pleased to welcome on the 15th January 2015 Analiese Doctrove, head of fundraising for the Brighton based charity Rockinghorse, which has been supporting children for over 45 years. The charity was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, who recognised there was a real need for additional resources to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies.
Rockinghorse are the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and also support the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, where they raise money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment, while ensuring that children are treated in an environment that is better suited to their needs.
In June 2007, 'The New Alex' in Brighton opened its doors to children across Sussex and beyond. The facility offers all inpatients their own room with a pull out bed for parents to stay. The rooms have low level windows for children to see out and their beds are all facing the sea.
In 2012, a total of 45,580 children and babies were treated in the Alex and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit.
Recently, Rockinghorse has been working with the Alex to develop a new Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Nutrition Unit as well as a children’s accident and emergency room and a pain distraction unit to help treat young people.
Rockinghorse do not receive any government funding and so rely on the generous support of individuals, community groups, companies and trusts. Therefore Dawson Hart have chosen to support this worthy charity and are aiming to raise £2,500.00 over the next 12 months.
Dawson Hart will organise various events to include a barn dance, Easter egg hunt, pub quiz, as well as make and sell biscuits and cakes.
Staff members will be taking part in a parachute jump, chicken run and the Eastbourne half marathon.
